Symposium

Thanks to the generous support by the Universität der Künste BASS2010 is realizing a trans-disciplinary symposium titled “Die Entdeckung klanglicher Tiefe“.

This symposium will be headed by Prof. Dr. Dörte Schmidt and Prof. Dr. Susanne Fontaine and is designed to contribute to establishing a basis for the music historic contextualization, analysis and documentation of the increasing number of rediscovered works for the double bass. Moreover music didactic and music therapeutic questions in relation to the double bass shall be discussed, for which a cooperation with the Kurt-Singer-Institut for musicians’ health headed by Prof. Christin Guttenberg has been established.

More presentations on the double bass playing practice in new music as well as on the question of an ideal key for deep sounds are in planning.

The symposium will take place from Oktober 5 to 10 at lunchtime from 12.00 – 14.00 hours in the Universität der Künste, Bundesallee 1-12.

It is conceptualized by Prof. Michael Wolf and Dr. des. Alexander Saier. They are available for questions and helpful suggestions at alexander.saier@web.de.

Any research into the double bass can only be realized through a strong interaction between science and playing practice. This is why we would like to express our thanks particularly to the Universität der Künste, who has been extremely supportive. This support is exemplified by the engagement of the Commission for Artistic-Scientific Projects.

Please note: The music science symposium will be almost entirely in German.
